IPMAT Exam Pattern

IPMAT has done revision to its examination pattern for the year 2021 examination. Moreover, starting from the duration of the test, mode of test, scheme of marking to the examination section, everything has changed. As per the pattern of 2021 IPMAT examination, the questions will come primarily from two sections-quantitative and verbal ability. The following abstracts throw more light on exam pattern and sections in IPMAT.


Moreover, the pattern of IPMAT 2022 is going to be of 2 hours. This is going to take place through the online mode. This time the examination is going to be of 90 minutes, which was of 120 minutes earlier. There will be 30 minutes for each section, which was 40 minutes earlier. Moreover, it’s going to be an online mode of examination.

IPMAT Sections

  • Coming to sections, there are going to be 3 sections in IPMAT 2022. The three sections are- Quantitative ability, qualitative ability, and verbal ability. Quantitative ability questions are going to come in MCQs. Similarly, the quantitative ability questions will come as short answer-type questions. Finally, the Verbal ability questions will also be in MCQs.
  • Candidates will get 4 marks for every correct answer, and one mark will be reduced for every wrong answer. In short, there is negative marking. There will be a total of 20 Quantitative Ability questions, 10 Quantitative Ability questions, and 30 Verbal Ability questions.  
  • Coming to syllabus, the Quantitative Ability section includes topics like Distance, Time, and Work, Geometry, Mensuration, Profit and loss, Percentage, set theory, Number System, Data Interpretation, Time, Speed,
  • Coming to Verbal Ability, the syllabus includes Paragraph Completing, Usage of Word, Para Jumble, Comprehensions, and fills blanks, and grammar. To be specific about reading comprehension section, there will be 3 to 4 passages; these will be having 5 questions in each. In general, the passages do come from the economic studies of issues. It also comes from cultural issues, as well as developmental issues. As far as vocabulary questions are concerned, there will be about 10-12 questions in it. Basically, the questions will come from synonyms and antonym. Apart from these, there will be questions from Para Jumble and logical Completion of the Paragraph as well. There will be questions based on usage of the words as well. One must not ignore the fill-in-the-blanks and basic grammar questions as well.

Marking Scheme

When it comes to IPMAT examination pattern in 2022, in case a candidate leaves a question without attempting, he/she won’t get any mark. Also, there will be no mark deducted from it. Most importantly, the candidate can’t jump from one to the other section. In short, they have to address the questions in exact order that is set for them.

There will be 100 questions in total. This year, the IPMAT 2022 will be conducted over the online mode. Many people enquire whether this is a national-level examination. Well, the answer is quite straight; yes, it’s a national-level entrance examination.

Eligibility list

The eligible list of candidates is made upon taking into account the overall positive score of the candidate and the least marks obtained in all the three sections, specifically of Aptitude test. It’s the Admission Committee that decides the minimum cut-off mark of every section. However, these minimum cut-off marks of every section are going to be in accordance with the applicant category. Above all, there won’t be any regret letters delivered to the individuals who get rejected.  

Coming to the weightage for the final admission, the weightage for Aptitude test score or ATS is 65 percent. Similarly, for Personal Assessment is 35 percent. Composite Score (CS)- total of the above= 100%.


So, that’s all about the IPMAT 2022 that one would wish to know. Apparently, the examination has been made shorter, specific, and strategic. Best part about the examination is that it provides proper scope for the students to score well upon preparing in a strategic fashion. All that they need is to be careful about the negative marks. In this context, they should not abruptly attempt anything else. Attaining the easy ones or the questions in which the student feels confident would be the best recommendation.
